Volunteer
Would you like to join our herd for a day?
Hope Reins Christian Counseling Center depends on compassionate, hard-working volunteers to help care for our horses and property. We host designated Group Volunteer Days several times throughout the year, where businesses, organizations, families, or individuals can join us for a meaningful day of service. Whether it’s feeding or grooming horses, assisting with grounds and maintenance, or helping with special projects, your efforts will play an important role in supporting the mission of Hope Reins.
No experience is necessary—just a willingness to lend a hand and a heart ready to serve!
Dates for upcoming Group Volunteer Days will be posted in the Volunteer Dates tab above as they are scheduled. (If no dates are currently listed, our next Group Volunteer Day has not yet been scheduled. Please check back soon for upcoming opportunities to join us.)
Who can volunteer?
We welcome one-time group volunteers ages 10 and older. Volunteers aged 10–17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the event. For safety reasons, children under the age of 10 are not permitted to be on site during volunteer hours.
Group Volunteer Days are ideal for:
Businesses looking for team-building opportunities
Church or youth groups
Families wanting to volunteer together
Individuals with a desire to put generosity into action
Please note:
Individuals currently receiving mental health services at Hope Reins are kindly asked to wait until they have successfully completed treatment before volunteering, in order to maintain healthy therapeutic boundaries.
Orientation & What to Expect
Before volunteering, all participants will receive a brief orientation at the start of each Group Volunteer Day. Our volunteer coordinator will go over essential safety guidelines and tasks to help ensure the comfort and well-being of both volunteers and our horses. We’ll provide all necessary tools, training, and of course—light refreshments (donut worry, we’ve got you covered!).
We’re so grateful for every helping hand—and we look forward to serving alongside you soon!

Frequently Asked Questions
Where does orientation take place?
Orientation takes place at our main Hope Reins office building in Lake City. Upon arrival, please come into the building and help yourself to some refreshments. Orientation will take place both inside our office building and outside in the pasture and arena, so please dress accordingly. (see below)
Is experience with horses needed?
No experience is required. Volunteers will learn basic horse safety and care during orientation. We also have a number of tasks not associated with the horses that volunteers can choose to tackle – each volunteer is in control of which task(s) they select from the list of those needing completion.
What will I learn at the orientation?
You will briefly learn about the mission and work done at Hope Reins with the main focus of orientation on basic safety measures, how to care for the horses, and assigning the various volunteer tasks for the day to those present. Please be sure to attend orientation at the start of each volunteer day whether or not you have volunteered with Hope Reins in the past.
What is the age requirement?
Children must be at least 10 years old to volunteer. Volunteers aged 10-17 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please complete a separate Volunteer Registration Form for each individual volunteer.
What is the dress code?
Closed toe shoes are required when working on the farm (no sandals, flip flops or steel-toed boots allowed). To volunteer, wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet or dirty (layers are recommended). Note that the farm can get muddy so consider low heeled, rubber soled boots for wet or rainy days.
What happens if it rains?
In the event that a weather cancellation is required, you will be notified ahead of time. We will provide as much advanced notice as possible, but necessary last minute weather changes are unfortunately out of our control.
What should I bring to orientation?
Please bring appropriate attire, required footwear (see above), and a positive attitude.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
The Group Volunteer Day Registration form can be found HERE, or by clicking any of the “Register Now” buttons found on the Volunteer page of our website.
Please register before each Group Volunteer Day you plan to attend. This helps us know how many volunteers to expect, so we can plan accordingly.
Can I bring my dog?
Sorry, no outside pets are allowed on the property.
What jobs do volunteers perform?
Possible volunteer tasks include: feeding horses, grooming horses, pasture clean up, maintaining equipment, yard work or snow removal, light cleaning inside the offices or on the exterior of the building, fencing upkeep, maintaining horse tack, organizing equine assisted psychotherapy tools, scooping horse poop, updating unfinished areas of the office building, and general grounds maintenance and upkeep.
